I have been involved in Hineuru iwi Trust since its early days and also served several years as Trustee on Te Awahohonu Forest Trust, working alongside many experienced trust ees who have since retired or passed away . Without the hard work and input of all Trustees, these organisations would not be where they are today.
I am extremely proud to be a current Trustee of Hineuru which is fast becoming a thriving business with several investments, as well as growing a forest on the Hineuru lwi Trust Farm and the Hineuru Pukenui block. I believe in supporting our Rangatahi by providing education grants and scholarships to enable them to find future employment.
Giving me your vote will allow me the privilege to continue this mahi of the previous Trustees, I would be honoured to do so as I am passionate about the continual progress of Tataraakina for the benefit of the owners, Rangitahi and the generations yet to come.

For many years I have been following the Tataraakina C correspondence that was addressed to my father Wetini Anaru, or Bill Andrews as he was more widely known. In recent years I have been concerned with what I have read and have been watching from afar and honestly, have been becoming more increasingly concerned about the goings on that I can see with regards to where the trust could, or should be, as opposed to where it is now. I believe there is much room for improvement and for the benefit of not only the present owners, but for ngā tamariki me ngā mokopuna katoa.
The key to the success of any trust that should accompany the good business sense is honesty and t ransparency. The people, the owners have a right to know where their money is going and how it is being put to use to best benefit you all.
I have never been on any trust before in my life and I make no excuses for that, but, I have worked for a Māori owned trust in the past and I turned the business from running at a loss to the absolute opposite situation in a short period of time by simply fixing the problems of mismanagement that were present when I arrived.
My background is in Sawmilling, Forestry and Trucking. I've spent over 45 years of my life in these industries and I drove trucks for over 25 of those years, a few years here and there operating machines in Sawmills and Forestry but I also spent 16 years in management and logistics which gave me a massive understanding of how to turn $1.00 into $2.00, and I cannot see any reason, with the assets and the money making potential of this trust, and with the transparency I intend to bring, there is no reason why every dollar can't be turned into $2.00 if not $3.00, and be passed on to those who deserve it, namely you the owners.
I believe I can make a difference to this if you let me. The trust is yours and I intend to make sure there are benefits that are also yours just how it should be.

Kia Ora my name is Albert Thomas Charles Hapuku Te Nahu-Baker. I confirm I am a beneficiary of the Trust and I also whakapapa to Tataraakina C Trust through my maternal whanau Susan Baker (nee Eden). I was born and raised on the Old Tataraakina Mill site at the gateway to the whenua. I now live in Napier with my partner Mary and our three children Arthur 13 years/ Matene 11 years and Toli 8 years old. My eldest son Gordon 24 years lives in Otane.
I work as a Plant Manager in the Three Waters Division of the Hastings District Council. A typical day includes attending to all urgent call outs/maintenance of infrastructure/management of contractors including work permits/ contractor accounts/ Health and Safety of personal on the plant. From time to time my role also involves attending public meetings to address water issues and preparing and filing all resources consents to allow the plant to operate. I started my role six years ago as a Water Attendant at the plant and I was encouraged to upskill in water and asset management with the support of my family/colleagues and my employer.
My interest in health and safety, management of water and infrastructure assets started when I worked at Silver Fern Farms Tannery for eighteen years. It was an environment that involved a few people from different backgrounds/ trying to work in teams around potentially dangerous machinery. A moment of inattention could lead to serious harm to my workmates and ultimately affect their families. I was also very curious about how our company manages our waste given that it used a significant amount of hazardous substances on a daily basis, and I wondered whether the infrastructure in place to deal with the waste. I was fortunate that I had work colleagues that supported my interests and allowed me to learn from them.
When I am not working or spending time with my family/ I spend a lot of time with the sporting community in rugby and rugby league. Despite the challenges of Covid-19 in 2020, I have coached the Taradale Women's Sevens Team, my son's E grade team at Napier Boys High School, and the Napier Boys 2nd XV Team.
In the past I have coached premier club teams/womens teams/boys teams/development teams, Hawkes Bay representative teams and Hawke's Bay Maori representative teams. I have coached a team every year since 1989. My involvement with sport has taught me how to motivate people from all walks of life to achieve common goals.
I can offer the Trust a very specialised area of knowledge around water, but also/ I have experience in the management of assets and working in a team environment. Although there is still a lot for me to learn, I believe I am equipped with experience and skills to promote governance and management of our resources by Maori for Maori.
